Insurance Credit Scoring
Do you think your credit score only determines
whether you can qualify to get a loan or a
mortgage? Think again.
Insurance companies across Texas are plugging
credit histories into their computers to
determine how much consumers will have to pay
for home and auto insurance. For the past
several years, some insurance companies have
used secret formulas they claim can somehow
connect your credit history to your automobile
driving skills or the likelihood that you will
file a claim if hail damages the roof of your
home. For more information on this subject,
click to read this
article.
Don't Overpay for Auto Insurance
Some consumers don't realize there is a broad
range in the cost of automobile insurance. Be
sure to shop around before committing yourself
to a long-term policy.
You can find ways to lower the cost of your
auto policy by reading this
article from our Web site. Also, visit
sites such as
insure.com and
insweb.com to check policy rates from
various insurance companies.

Texas Boating
Safety Tips
Quick
Tips
-
Always wear a life jacket.
- Avoid
alcohol.
- Be
especially careful on personal
watercrafts.
-
Children younger than age 13
must wear a Coast Guard
approved life jacket while underway.
-
Enroll in a boater education class.
- Don't
overload your boat.
-
Operate at a safe speed.
-
Always have a passenger serve as a
lookout in addition to the operator.
- Watch
out for low water areas or submerged
objects.
Wear A Personal Flotation Device (PFD) or
Life Jacket
- Only
9 percent of boating fatality victims
were found wearing a personal flotation
device.
-
Always carry extra life jackets in both adult
and child sizes.
-
Children younger than 13 years old must
wear a PFD while underway.
Avoid
Alcohol
- The
probability of being killed in a
boating accident doubles when alcohol
is involved.
-
Operating a boat under the influence is
just as dangerous as driving a car
after you've been drinking.
-
Boating while intoxicated (BWI) is
strictly enforced and carries penalties
similar to driving while intoxicated
penalties, including possible Driver's
License suspension.
Enroll
in a Boater Education Course
- It's
a good idea for the whole family to
enroll in a boater education course.
- 52
percent of vessels involved in boating
accidents are operated by persons 26-50
years of age.
- For
information on classroom, home video
and on-line course options, visit the
Texas Parks and Wildlife Web site at
www.tpwd.state.tx.us
or call (800) 792-1112.
Be
Especially Careful on Personal Watercraft
(PWC)
- Personal
watercraft
operators and passengers must
wear a life jacket.
-
Before you borrow or rent a PWC, take
the time to learn how to operate the
vessel and the rules of the waterway.
- Obey
the 50-foot rule! Maintain a 50-foot
distance from other PWCs, vessels,
persons, shore, or stationary platform
or other object unless operating at
headway (idle) speed.
Operate
at a Safe Speed
-
Although there are no numerical speed
limits on the water, citations may be
issued for excessive speed or reckless
operation. Use common sense, and
operate at a safe speed at all times
-- especially in crowded areas.
-
Excessive speed is a rate of speed
greater than is reasonable or prudent
without regard for conditions and
hazards or greater than will permit a
person to bring the boat to a stop
within the assured clear distance
ahead.

Automobile Airbag Dangers
Airbags have been in use
in automobiles for many years, since the
early 1970's for some car manufacturers.
While they sometimes do save lives, airbags can also
cause serious problems. Children
riding in the front passenger seat have been seriously
injured or killed when an airbag deployed in
a crash. Contrary to what you might think, an airbag is not a soft,
pillow-like device. An airbag comes out
of the steering wheel or dashboard at up to 200 miles per hour. The force
of an airbag hitting a person can seriously
injure a driver or passenger sitting too
close to it.
Also, when a manufacturer designs,
produces, or installs an airbag incorrectly,
serious injuries and deaths can result.
Defective airbags include those that deploy with too much
force, deploy in minor collisions when they
are not otherwise needed, or fail to deploy
under circumstances in which they should.
If you have been seriously injured by an airbag, it
is important to contact an attorney to
protect your legal rights. If you have
questions about this subject, please call or
write our law firm.

| FEATURED
CASE |
 |
|
Our law firm is handling an
automobile collision case in which it was important to
be able to prove that the other driver deliberately
gave our client a false name at the time of the
collision. Fortunately, since there was no police
report made, our client had a handwritten note showing
the false name.
If you are involved in an accident of any kind, and
there is no immediate official investigation, it is
important for you to gather as much information as
possible before leaving the scene. For instance, in an
automobile collision, you will want the name and all
contact information on the other driver, driver's
license number, license plate number, insurance company name and policy
number, witness names, etc. You can find articles
explaining this in more detail on our
Web site.
Get as much information as you can. You never know
which piece of information may turn out to be vital in
your case. |
