Don't Pay Private Companies for Free Social Security
Services
Government officials warn that consumers should not
be tricked into paying private companies for services
that are actually provided
for free by the Social Security
Administration.
According to information from the Social Security Administration,
some private companies have victimized
people through misleading advertising for a
variety of services that can he obtained at
no charge directly from the Social Security
Administration. Among the services some
advertisers offer to perform for a fee are:
* providing a revised Social Security card to show a
bride's married name;
* providing a Social Security card to replace a lost
card;
* providing a Social Security number for a
newborn baby;
* providing a Personal Earnings and Benefit
Estimate Statement.
In addition, some advertisers may suggest that
Social Security is in dire financial shape
and that people risk losing their Social
Security or Medicare benefits unless they
send a contribution or membership fee to
the advertiser.
To report such abuse, the Social Security
Administration has established a toll-free
fraud hotline at (800) 269-0271.
To inquire about Social Security services,
you can contact the Social Security office
nearest you by telephone or in person. To
find your closest Social Security
Administration office, click
here. You can also call the Social
Security Administration nation-wide at
(800) 772-1213.
The Social Security Administration has a
wealth of information on their Web site at
www.ssa.gov. You can also find much
additional Social Security
information at our law firm's Web site at
www.ss-law.com. For instance, to
learn how to revise or replace a Social
Security card, or to get a Social Security
number for a newborn baby, just click
here. To request your Personal
Earnings and Benefit Estimate Statement,

these services.
We invite you to contact our law firm with
any questions you might have about Social
Security disability -- whether you are
preparing to file a disability claim or you
have already filed a claim and been denied.
If we can't help you,
we will direct you to the proper agency to

Does Hiring a Lawyer
for an Injury Claim Pay Off?
Despite what some insurance companies say,
hiring a lawyer often results in more money
in a claimant's pocket. More and more often
insurance companies are contacting injury
victims immediately after the accident, and
making an offer to settle the claim. If this
happens to you, you need to remember that
the insurance company is not on your side.
They are simply trying to save their company
money.
Insurance companies sometimes imply that a
quick settlement will net more money than if
the claimant hires a lawyer, but this
usually is not true. Studies show that
victims who are represented by lawyers
recover more for their injuries, medical
bills, lost wages, pain, suffering, and
other damages than do those not represented
by a lawyer. This is true even after the
lawyer’s fee has been paid! Why? Because
a lawyer knows the rules, knows what you are
entitled to receive, and knows how to
present all of this to the insurance company
and, if necessary, in court.
If you are injured in an accident, contact
this office as soon as you can, because
having a lawyer on your side is better than
fighting the insurance company alone.

Most consumers probably know that injury
claims can be made against automobile manufacturers in
the event of an airbag malfunction. If an airbag fails
to deploy, or deploys too slowly or too quickly, a
claim can be made for the resulting injuries.
But most consumers may not realize that a claim can be
made for injuries caused from the failure to
provide airbags in vehicles. Many newspaper and
television stories recently have focused on side impacts involving
light trucks and passenger cars. In these
accidents, the occupant is
exposed to injury from the high
bumper of the striking vehicle. Auto
manufacturers have known for at least a decade that
these injuries could be minimized or prevented by the use of side airbags.
A motorist injured in such a collision may be able to make a
claim against the automobile manufacturer for failing
to provide a side airbag. Please contact us if you
have any questions about this matter. |
